Learn IFS in a space where you can bring your full self.

Our QTIFS Foundations course offers a space for you to learn IFS with other queer, trans, and nonbinary clinicians.

QTIFS Foundations Course

for Trans, Nonbinary, and Queer Clinicians

Online course w/ Sand Chang, PhD and Nic Wildes, LMHC

This is a 36-hour, 6-session series (3 weekends across 3 months). 33 hours (with CEs) are online via Zoom. 3 hours are pre-recorded self-study.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a therapy approach that allows for and recognizes multiplicity of experience. It is a model that offers great potential for healing with people whose experiences do not align with dominant culture expectations, including trans, nonbinary, and queer communities. We are getting ready to launch applications for Cohort 7, which starts in February 2025. The deadline for applications will be November 4, 2024.

This course is not a substitute for the IFS Institute Level 1 training and it is not offered by the IFS Institute. We hope to provide a basic foundation for using IFS with other trans, nonbinary, and queer participants who also work professionally within trans, queer, and nonbinary communities. Many participants may use this course to determine whether to pursue further training through the IFS Institute.

The course will be co-taught by Nic Wildes, LMHC (they/them) and Sand Chang, PhD (they/them), both IFS Institute Approved Consultants and Level 3 Certified IFS therapists.

Who should take this course: This is a course that is for health and mental health providers (psychologists, licensed marriage and family therapists, licensed clinical social workers, licensed professional counselors, as well as other health care providers or practitioners such as bodyworkers) who have intermediate to advanced knowledge of and experience with topics related to gender and sexuality. Prior knowledge of IFS is not required.

By the end of this training, participants will be able to apply the IFS model with a special focus on trans, nonbinary, and queer communities.

Testimonials

  • Nic and Sand are incredible teachers. They're kind, thoughtful, and critical thinkers and put so much thought and care into building this training. The container they created felt intentional and safe, and allowed me to grow as a therapist and as a person. 5 stars could not recommend enough!

    Vic Meadow, LAC. Psychotherapist, AZ.

  • This training was amazing. The trainers were highly knowledgeable and great at teaching material via an intersectional lens. I highly recommend this training to anyone wanting to explore IFS centering QT and BIMPOC communities.

    Nia Hamilton, LCSW. Psychotherapist, CA.

  • I'm so grateful to have had the opportunity to take this training. Sand and Nic are thorough, smart and intentional trainers and the environment they created helped me feel accepted in all my parts. I've never been so comfortable in a training--ever.

    Karen Smillie, MFT. Psychotherapist, CA.

  • This is a fantastic training for anyone wanting to get familiar with the IFS model. It really helped me develop my skills and confidence in using IFS with clients. Getting to do this training as part of an affinity group with other queer/trans therapists was such an affirming experience. It allowed my parts to feel safe and supported as I learned.

Phil de la Haye. mindbody coach, UK.

  • Sand and Nic's training was unlike any other I had ever experienced--their openness, warmth, thoughtfulness, flexibility, and collective knowledge created a healing space for the parts of me that have felt unwelcome in institutional environments. With their support, and that of the TAs, I felt more confident to make my own way with this model. This training also changed the way I view my own healing process, in that I have much more compassion and grace for myself.

Luca Jin-Lin Bartlett, queer trans non-binary disabled mixed-raced LMFT. Oakland, CA.

  • As a trans and queer therapist, I am not used to bringing my whole self to a training, but this training allowed space and encouraged my whole self to show up! It wasn't long before I realized I could be open and vulnerable with the group, and it would be held. Because of that, I learned so much more. Thank you all again!

Kelly Wise, PhD, LCSW-R, CST. Psychotherapist, NY.
